October/November Activities
In science, we are continuing with our study of magnets and electricity.
We learned about conductors and insulators. After we built a circuit to test for continuity, we went around the school looking for items to test. We found our Principal, Mrs. Bock, and she let us check to see if her class ring was a conductor or an insulator.
In Language Arts, we just wrapped up our colaboration with Ms. French's class at Willowdale Elementary in Omaha, Nebraska. We started a story blog where both classes added to the story over the Internet on our shared blog site, the French-Hales Connection. We will now illustrate the story and make an eBook out of it and share with our new friends in Omaha. Once it's an eBook, we can put it on our Palm handheld computers and share with others here at MI.
In social studies, we have been learning about Native Americans and we have made a model of the Pueblo Indian's adobe dwelling. We'll be making tepees, and a Haida Indian lodge.
Also, in science, we broke away from our electricity study and did some experiments on pumpkins. We estimated the weight and circumference of 3 pumpkins. Then we measured and weighed them and compared our data. Then we predicited if we thought they would sink or float. They all float!
After we tested our pumpkins, we turned them into
Jack O' Lanterns!
And just before the end of the day on Halloween, we told ghost stories in the dark with a
flashlight.
