The Physics of Sound
Our latest venture into science is learning about the physics of sound. We began with the discrimination of sounds.
Students began by dropping different objects on a table and listening to the sounds they made. Objects included: plastic spoon, washer, plastic poker chip, ball of tin foil, etc. The students then, using the chambers (see photo), secretly dropped an object and the other student, using only the sound they heard, would choose an object they feel is the same and drop their object in their chamber. Then the students would lift the sound chambers and compare items. Then the students would switch and the second student would drop an item.

Next, the students will make a code based on the sounds and send messages. Each object's sound will represent a letter and the children will send coded messages using the sounds the objects produce.
